One morning a butterfly came calling. She flew close to the nest, and went round and round the tree. The little bird was fascinated by the butterfly.

There was once a little bird who refused to fly out. “Come on, baby, a bird has to fly,” said mama.

“Not today,” said the little bird.

Mama discussed this with Papa. “Will my little one ever fly, I wonder,” she said.

Papa was least worried. “He will. Just you wait, he will fly.”

“But he is showing no interest in flying,” complained mama, “Should I give him a push?”

“Don’t. He will fly one day when he is ready,” said papa.

So mama waited. Days passed by. Little bird was happy peeping out of the nest, looking at the floating clouds and flying birds. He himself refused to stir out of the cozy nest.

One morning a butterfly came calling. She flew close to the nest, and went round and round the tree. The little bird was fascinated by the butterfly.

“Catch me, if you can,” teased the butterfly as it hovered above him.

As the butterfly darted away, little bird took a plunge.

As he left the safety of the nest, he found himself midair. Mama was surprised to see him out of the nest. He was going down fast.

“Little one flap the wings,” shouted mama. Papa flew up in the air shouting, “Little one, pull yourself up. Come on.”

Butterfly dove near the little bird. “Little one, just follow me. Here we go,” she said as she went soaring high in the sky.

The little bird flapped its wings. The wind gave him push and up it rose. He wobbled a bit, steadied himself and then he flew after the butterfly.

Mama was relived. Papa was proud.

Little bird was happy flying in the sky, with his friend, the butterfly.
